1974
From school I joined Plessey Telecommunications Ltd. where I was employed
as a Trainee Installation Engineer. The training scheme involved installation and commissioning of mainly 'Strowger' type
exchange equipment up to site management level. Whilst I was with Plessey I attended Highbury Technical College for City &
Guilds Telecommunications.
1977
Forthcoming redundancies encouraged me to seek alternative employment.
Consequently I terminated my employment with Plessey and took up a self employed position as an Air Conditioning
Commissioning Engineer, contracted to Crown House Engineering. This work involved working as part of a team in the setting up
and commissioning of newly installed air conditioning plant prior to customer acceptance.
1978
At completion of contract no further contract was forthcoming and after a
period of some five months effectively unemployed, I took up permanent full time employment at Neco Marine, where I was
employed in the manufacture and testing of capstans, windlass and electro-hydraulic auto-pilot systems. Whilst at Neco, I
attended Highbury Technical College on a day release basis, studying TEC Electronics.
1980
I obtained a better position and salary with GEC Marconi Defence Systems as
an Assistant In Service Support Engineer, responsible for the calibration and maintenance of a large range of "Grey Area"
electro-mechanical equipments. Within two years and with the formation of a new "Test Systems Environmental Support Group" I
became involved with many aspects of Environmental Testing, including the calibration and maintenance of Climatic Test
Chambers. I have since then progressed through the grading system to become a Senior Environmental Test Engineer the last
twelve years concentrating on the application and development of Random Vibration, Swept Sine and Classical Shock
Tests/Screens, as well as maintenance / repair of the power amplifier and vibration systems used. My responsibilities include
the formulation, interpretation and implementation of various environmental test programs / procedures and the installation /
acceptance of complete systems on / off site, including an installation in Sweden. I have consequently gained experience with
various makes / models of vibration control systems. e.g. Spectral Dynamics 2550B, Puma, SD1700, Solartron 1210, SI1215,
Gearing & Watson Siras and more recently Data Physics DP550 Vibration Controller. More recently, I have gained valuable
experience working with a specialist consultant, developing vibration stress screens for various assemblies and PEC's. At p
resent my position is that of Principal Environmental Test Engineer, employed by BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies,
responsible directly to the Environmental Systems Manager. My responsibilities are for all aspects of vibration testing or
screening as well as team leader to the departmental maintenance & calibration workforce.
Note:
Since 1980, at the location where I have been employed, GEC Marconi
Defence Systems has changed ownership and name as follows, Marconi Electronic, Alenia Marconi Systems, AMS and at present
BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies.

Hobbies and Interests
Since elected departmental Web editor, a position now made obsolete by BAESystems' corporate policy towards intranet
content, I have become interested in HTML & Web page design. More recently I have begun venturing into MySql and php, hence
the move to Dragonfly, an 'Open Source' CMS,
which has allowed me to 'have a site and play with it' so to speak. This in turn has allowed me to develop my skills towards
creating my own sites.
I also have an interest in aircraft, generally at airshows, along with personal computing.
I currently have designed / configured or am administering 7 sites as follows:

ceees.org
