Comino & The Blue Lagoon.

Today we had set aside for our trip to Comino and the Blue Lagoon. We had seen this from afar on the Gozo ferry back in June and just had to visit close up. So once again, after a quick breakfast and enough coffee to readdress my center of gravity, off we went in our not so little car now covered in the largest amount of bird poo I have ever seen deposited in one night on one car. Hmmmph ! Don't park in the square under the trees if you don't like bird poo.

We arrived at Ramla Bay and Marfa Jetty with about thirty minute until the next ferry which gave us plenty of time to explore the piece of coastline we had parked next to. Below are two pictures while we waited.

The ferry to comino only takes about twenty to twentyfive minutes, I guess depending on the weather and if it's a bit choppy, like it was today, a whole lot of fun.

Below are two pictures of the very striking coastline as you approach Comino.

But nothing really prepares you for this . . .

OOOOOOOH ! The sea supports Pompey.

AAAAAAAH !.

as you approach the little quay where you disembark.

There is actually not much of a beach here and it can be a bit of a scramble down the rocks to get into the sea, but that did not deter Daniel and Rosie one bit. We found a spot perched up the rocks from the water and set up base as what beach there was, was almost completely occupied. It did not take me and the missus much longer to venture into the water which was warm and so clear. A bit weird when you are used to the Solent and all that sails in her. I actually comandeered Daniel's goggles as there were a lot of little white fishes swimming around that did not appear the least bit put out by us lot splashing around. You could actually reach out and touch them if you were careful and slow. Touching Nemo!

The picture on the left is looking sort of southwest from the hill where the loos are. For your convenience, hehe, I have circled me in yellow so that you can see where we had set up camp.

Just beginning to come to terms with this being October. Not extremely hot just pleasantly warm.

Right ! A couple of hours of that and some lunch was in order so Kathy and Rosie ventured off to a 'chuck' wagon parked down by the quay where the boats arrive. What they came back with was again a pleasant surprise. For me a Huge hot dog with fries and a salad which was absolutely superb.

While we we having our lunch Larry, pictured right, arrived to give us the benefit of his local knowledge. Actually his name was unlikely to be Larry, I just made that bit up.

At this point we noticed a rather ominous looking group of clouds way out to the Northwest but heading our way. It was small enough to think that it might miss us. At one point it looked as though we could merely walk 100 yards south and avoid it. We did, run 100 yards that is, but did not avoid it. You could see and hear the rain advancing across the water towards us and when it hit us, well, it was the power shower from hell. We would have got no wetter jumping in the sea and it must have lasted no more than about 30 seconds before it was gone. On the bright side it was warm enough to dry us in less than twenty minutes.

Well that got us all packed up if nothing else and so we went back down to the quay area to await the next ferry, about 16:30 I think. Just time for an icecream and then onto the ferry for the return trip, which included a slight detour to view some of Comino's coastline more closely. I would have liked to walk around the island a bit, see St. Mary's Tower, (as featured in the film, The Count of Monte Cristo, but I don't think the others were interested so we didn't. Matbe next time and there will be a next time.

Below are a few more pictures taken during the return ferry trip.

Hooray ! The car was still where we left it and all of the hard work that the birds had done overnight had been virtually 'wiped' out. So off back to the hotel.

I am pretty sure that this evening we had eats in the Hotel's Al Ponte Bistro & Pizzeria again as we enjoyed it on Sunday, followed by an evening in the main bar, drinking of course and listening to some excellent quality live musical entertainment.

(You can of course use the menu on the left towards the top of this page to roam around.)
